Study Visit in Upper Silesia

Project meeting

The aim of the study trip is to engage with the history and culture of remembrance, with a particular focus on the Nazi persecution of Jews, on site in Upper Silesia.

The itinerary includes visits to (memorial) sites that were formerly subcamps of Auschwitz, stations along the death marches, as well as relevant regional museums and (Jewish) cemeteries. Encounters with experts and activists provide insights into both visible forms of remembrance and existing voids. Particular attention is given to the challenges posed by remembrance—shaped by layered histories and complex political constellations.

The meeting also serves to foster personal connections among project participants and to initiate a joint reflection on transferable educational materials. Initial ideas are developed collaboratively and further elaborated in small working groups.
