The Course of (Hi)Stories. Experiences from a German-Polish online seminar on narratives about Judaism and a manual on how to work with podcasts in non-formal education

Tanja Lenuweit and Carolin Wenzel (eds.), February 2021

The handout combines experiences and practical tips from a multi-part online seminar, which was conducted in the fall of 2020 by the project The Course of (Hi)Stories in cooperation with Kreisau-Initiative. In this seminar, the participants, multipliers from youth work in Germany and Poland, dealt with different narratives and discourses on Judaism and Jews. Based on a training on the podcasting method, they created their own podcast on the topic.

The first part of the handout introduces the concept of the seminar series and lets participants have their say. A thematic introduction reflects on the importance of narratives for the construction of memory and (national) identity. Another article summarizes the dos and don’ts in designing online seminars and provides practical advice for conducting your own online seminars.

The second part of the publication is a practical guide to creating podcasts and using podcasts as a method in seminars. Starting with basic considerations about the podcast format, the how-to-podcast guide takes you step-by-step from script to post-production. Illustrated technical instructions, checklists and many links provide additional support. A model schedule shows how multipliers can use podcasts as a method for workshops in educational work.
